Indian Startup Funding Rises 5% YoY to $2.2 Billion in Q3 2026
India's startup ecosystem secured $2.2 billion in funding in Q3 2026, a 5% year-on-year increase, but the number of deals declined, indicating investor selectivity.

Indian tech startups raised $2.2 billion in capital between July and September 2026, marking a 5% increase from the same period last year. However, the total number of funding deals dropped by 13%, suggesting a more cautious approach from investors amid macroeconomic pressures and high valuations.
The funding momentum was largely propelled by four large deals exceeding $100 million, a significant rise from just one such transaction in Q3 2025. During the quarter, two startups, Emergent and Astrotalk, achieved unicorn status, valued at over $1 billion.
Despite the year-on-year growth, the $2.2 billion raised falls short of the $3.4 billion recorded in Q3 2024 and the eight-quarter average of approximately $2.7 billion. The number of active unique investors also saw a 24% decrease.
Funding in the growth stage (Series A and B) emerged as a primary driver, increasing by 38% year-on-year. Conversely, late-stage and early-stage funding experienced declines. Artificial intelligence (AI) attracted the most capital, with $438 million invested, though concerns persist regarding elevated valuations in the AI sector.
Sectors like cleantech and deeptech also saw substantial investment. Fintech and e-commerce, however, experienced a more subdued funding environment. Bengaluru continued to lead as the primary hub for India's startup activities.
