Indian Startups: 156 'Soonicorns' Valued Between $200 Million and $1 Billion

India's startup ecosystem is seeing a rise in potential unicorns, with 156 startups currently valued between $200 million and $1 billion, according to Inc42's new "Indian Soonicorn Tracker." These companies, termed 'soonicorns,' collectively hold an estimated valuation of $66 billion and have raised over $19 billion in funding to date.

The report highlights that despite increased investor caution following past governance issues, certain sectors like AI, deeptech, and robotics continue to attract significant capital. Patient capital has also emerged as a key theme for these capital-intensive ventures with longer gestation periods.

The pipeline of future unicorns is expanding, with seven Indian startups achieving unicorn status in the current year alone, joining existing AI unicorns like Sarvam and Emergent, and the first spacetech unicorn, Skyroot Aerospace.

The 'soonicorn' list features a diverse range of companies, including quick home service providers Pronto and Snabbit, as well as consumer brands such as Blue Tokai Coffee, Third Wave Coffee, Wow! Momo, and GIVA. The tracker provides detailed insights into founding years, sectors, funding, valuations, and investors for these high-potential companies.
