Indian Streaming Services Received 35 Content Complaints in August 2026
Eight streaming services in India received a total of 35 content-related complaints in August 2026, with only seven being upheld. Medianama's analysis highlights low complaint volumes across major platforms.

In August 2026, eight streaming services operating in India processed a combined total of 35 grievances classified under their Code of Ethics. Out of these, only seven were agreed upon by the platforms, according to an analysis by Medianama.
Netflix reported 20 complaints related to its content, agreeing with just one. Amazon Prime Video received 14 such complaints and concurred with six. Other services, including SonyLIV, Apple TV+, ShemarooMe, Hoichoi, and Sun NXT, saw significantly fewer or no complaints falling under the Code of Ethics.
The reporting requirement stems from India's Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021, mandating monthly reports on content grievances. These reports serve as the sole public data on viewer objections and subsequent actions.
The analysis also identified inconsistencies in reporting formats and data. Some services, like Aha, reported large numbers of grievances without corresponding received complaints, while others, such as JioHotstar, used non-standard formats. Netflix's report was published as an image, hindering machine readability and comparative analysis across platforms and months.
