Indiana American Water Highlights Source Water Protection Efforts
Indiana American Water is participating in the annual Source Water Protection Week, emphasizing its commitment to providing safe and clean water. The company collaborates with various entities to protect water sources.
Indiana American Water is observing the American Water Works Association's Annual Source Water Protection Week, running from September 27 to October 3, to underscore its dedication to providing customers with safe, clean, and reliable water services.
"Protecting our source water is the first step in providing safe, clean, reliable drinking water," stated Barry Suits, Indiana American Water President. He added that keeping rivers, lakes, and groundwater free from pollution reduces potential risks to water quality and lowers treatment costs.
The company actively participates in the Upper White River Watershed Management Plan and Upper East Fork Whitewater River Watershed Plan committees. Working with the Indiana Department of Environmental Management, local governments, and conservation partners, Indiana American Water helps identify water quality priorities, support watershed protection strategies, and secure funding for restoration projects.
Key protection efforts include supporting projects that reduce erosion and nutrient runoff. American Water's research labs conduct nearly one million tests annually, and the company utilizes advanced technology and filtration processes. It also collaborates with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to meet water quality standards.
