Indiana expands rural EMS access to Handtevy clinical platform

The Indiana Department of Homeland Security’s EMS Division has renewed its partnership with clinical intelligence provider Handtevy. The agreement continues the platform's availability for existing agencies and extends access to additional rural communities across the state.

Data from the past two years indicates that over 90 agencies in Indiana have utilized the platform for more than 62,000 patient records and 100,000 protocol references. According to state officials, the platform has become a fixture in daily operations, supporting clinicians in cases ranging from newborn resuscitation to critical adult care.

Under Indiana's Rural Health Transformation Program, eligible agencies are provided with Handtevy Mobile, the ScanSafe barcode medication verification system, and necessary medical equipment at no cost. State EMS Director Kraig Kinney noted that the tool has become integral to emergency care delivery, particularly in rural areas where immediate clinical guidance is vital.

Handtevy's system operates offline, allowing it to function in areas with limited connectivity. The platform is intended to support documentation and clinical safety protocols. Funding for the expansion remains available on a first-come, first-served basis for eligible agencies.
