India's AI Job Growth Outpaces Overall IT Sector Hiring
Hiring for AI-related roles in India grew 16% year-over-year in June, significantly outpacing the overall IT sector's 3% decline. This shift reflects technology firms reallocating resources amid economic pressures.

Recruitment for Artificial Intelligence (AI) roles in India saw a 16% year-over-year increase in June, according to data from local job platform Naukri. This growth trend stands in contrast to the broader IT sector, where overall job postings declined by 3% during the same period.
This divergence highlights a strategic shift within Indian technology companies as they adapt to rapid technological advancements and evolving market demands. Facing macroeconomic headwinds and reduced client spending on technology, firms are prioritizing investments in new capabilities and emergent areas like AI.
The Naukri JobSpeak report, which aggregates hiring data from over 150,000 companies, indicated a broader trend with AI and machine learning positions experiencing a 25% overall hiring increase across 14 tracked industries. This suggests a sustained commitment to developing expertise in these critical fields.
Meanwhile, India's largest software exporter, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), has projected a slowdown in its hiring pace and plans workforce adjustments. The company previously reduced its headcount by over 12,000 roles in July of last year and a net decrease of over 23,000 employees for the fiscal year ending March 2026.
