India's Cleantech Funding Surges in Q3 2026

India's cleantech sector experienced substantial growth in the third quarter of 2026, with funding volume nearly tripling compared to the same period last year. The sector raised $433 million, up from $118 million in Q3 2025.

The surge was significantly boosted by investments in electric mobility. Three electric vehicle startups โ€“ River, Yulu, and Ultraviolette โ€“ collectively secured $298 million, accounting for nearly 69% of the sector's total funding for the quarter. This concentration highlights the segment's reliance on a few well-capitalized ventures.

The increase in cleantech funding reflects a shift by investors towards commercially viable businesses addressing tangible problems. Electric mobility led this trend, supported by rising EV registrations, stronger consumer demand, and improved product-market fit. Increased component localization and growing investor confidence also played a role.

Industry experts suggest that the long-term prospects for the cleantech sector will depend on diversifying investments beyond EVs into emerging areas such as energy storage, grid technology, and green hydrogen. A focus on unit economics and a clear path to sustainable revenue will be critical for future investors.
