India recorded 140.5 million machine-to-machine (M2M) connections by the end of August 2026, marking a 56.6% increase year-over-year. This growth indicates a substantial expansion in the country's IoT ecosystem.
India's machine-to-machine (M2M) connections reached 140.5 million at the close of August 2026, a significant 56.6% surge compared to the same period last year. The data, released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), highlights a robust expansion in the nation's Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure.
The M2M/IoT base saw a monthly addition of 2.8 million connections in August 2026. Over the preceding twelve months, from August 2025 to August 2026, the total number of M2M connections grew by 50.8 million.
Bharti Airtel maintained its leading position with 86.06 million M2M connections, representing 61.25% of India's total market share. Reliance Jio followed with 27.10 million connections, while Vodafone Idea held 22.57 million, and BSNL reported 4.78 million.
In terms of monthly growth for August 2026, Airtel added 1.61 million M2M connections, Vodafone Idea added 0.65 million, and Reliance Jio added 0.54 million. BSNL's contribution to the monthly increase was 0.01 million connections.
