India's mobile data usage up 8.3%, average cost per GB falls
India's mobile data consumption rose 8.3% to 84,424 petabytes in the June 2026 quarter, while the average cost per gigabyte of wireless data decreased by 5.1% to Rs 7.13, according to TRAI.

Mobile data usage in India increased by 8.3% to 84,424 petabytes (PB) during the April–June 2026 quarter, up from 77,953 PB in the preceding quarter, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) reported. Concurrently, the average cost per gigabyte (GB) for wireless data fell by 5.1% to Rs 7.13, down from Rs 7.51 in the January–March period.
The figures, published in TRAI's Indian Telecom Services Performance Indicators report, highlight a steady rise in data consumption. The average mobile data subscriber used 28.39 GB per month in the June quarter, a 6.3% increase from the previous quarter. Since September 2024, total mobile data usage has grown from 56,174 PB to 84,424 PB.
Over the same period, average monthly data usage per subscriber increased from 21.10 GB to 28.39 GB. The average price paid per GB has seen a significant decline, dropping from Rs 9.08 in September 2024 to Rs 7.13 by June 2026.
TRAI's data indicates that while mobile users are consuming more data, the average cost per gigabyte continues to decrease. This trend suggests potential impacts on operator revenue models and market competition as data demand grows.
