Industrial Next Aims for Minutes, Not Weeks, to Switch Factory Robot Tasks

San Francisco-based Industrial Next is developing AI-powered robotic stations that allow manufacturers to switch production tasks in minutes, a process that traditionally takes weeks or months. This addresses a key bottleneck in modern manufacturing, aiming to increase flexibility and enable automation of complex, delicate tasks previously requiring human intervention.

The startup's technology utilizes proprietary "foundation models" that integrate vision, task context, and motion control. This system allows robotic stations to adapt to new tasks without extensive reprogramming or physical retooling, a significant departure from conventional automation setups. Industrial Next presented its solution at the TechCrunch Disrupt 2026 event.

Industrial Next announced a collaboration with BMW Group Technology Office to evaluate the application of its AI-powered dexterous manipulation for manufacturing processes. This partnership signals potential adoption within the automotive sector.

Founded in 2021 by former Tesla engineers Lukas Pankau and Allen Pan, Industrial Next was conceived from their observations of the gap between advanced vehicle technology and outdated factory equipment. Their goal is to modernize manufacturing infrastructure to better support rapid technological advancements.
