IndyCar is set to hold its inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C. this weekend, utilizing Pennsylvania Avenue as part of the race course. The event is tied to the nation's 250th birthday celebrations.

IndyCar will bring its high-speed racing to the nation's capital this weekend with the Freedom 250 Grand Prix of Washington, D.C., a unique event that will see race cars competing on Pennsylvania Avenue. This marks the first time the series has raced in the city and is part of the ongoing festivities surrounding America's 250th birthday.
The two-day event includes practice sessions and qualifying on Saturday, which will determine the starting grid for Sunday's main race. An International Race of Champions exhibition event, featuring notable former drivers, is also scheduled for Saturday.
The 1.7-mile course is set against the backdrop of the National Mall, with landmarks like the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument visible to spectators and competitors. Racers will complete 147 laps, covering approximately 250 miles, with the race duration expected to be around three hours.
President Donald Trump is scheduled to attend the event, which was initiated by an executive order he signed in January. He will also travel the course in his motorcade before waving the green flag to start the race.
The full field of 25 NTT IndyCar Series drivers will compete for championship points. The race will be broadcast on Fox Sports and the Fox network throughout the weekend.
