Infineon Launches USB-C 20Gbps PCIe Card Reference Design for Industrial Use
Infineon Technologies has announced a new USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps) Type-C PCIe add-in card reference design. The product aims to accelerate the adoption of this high-speed interface in industrial applications.
Infineon Technologies has introduced a new reference design for a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gbps) Type-C PCIe add-in card. The development is intended to speed up the implementation of this high-speed interface within industrial sectors, particularly for machine vision applications.
The card features a PCIe Gen4 x4 upstream connection and integrates ASMedia's ASM4242 USB4 host controller alongside Infineon's EZ-PD CCG7 USB PD controller. Downstream, it provides two USB-C ports capable of 36W PD output, supporting 20Gbps signal transmission over passive cables up to 5 meters in length.
Infineon stated that the widespread adoption of USB 20Gbps in industrial settings has been hindered by signal integrity challenges over longer distances and complex power delivery requirements. While offering twice the bandwidth of previous generations, these factors have limited its application scope.
This new reference design directly addresses these challenges. It aims to simplify system design and remove reliability barriers for high-speed, high-power transmission in machine vision systems, enabling easier integration of USB-C 20Gbps technology.
