Infineon opens $114m semiconductor facility in Thailand
German chipmaker Infineon Technologies has opened a new semiconductor back-end facility in Thailand. The investment is part of the country's broader strategy to expand its chip industry.

German chipmaker Infineon Technologies officially opened a semiconductor back-end facility near Bangkok on October 1. The plant will process chips into finished, tested semiconductors for various applications.
Infineon stated its initial investment in the new facility exceeded 100 million euros, approximately $113.57 million USD. The facility is designed to enhance the company's production flexibility, complementing its existing operations in Malaysia.
The site will initially feature 30,000 square meters of cleanroom space, with plans for potential expansion up to 150,000 square meters. Thailand's Board of Investment reported the project's valuation at $1.4 billion, though a public breakdown of this figure compared to Infineon's outlay has not been provided.
Thailand is actively seeking to bolster its semiconductor sector. According to government figures, the country has attracted approximately $27.12 billion USD in semiconductor and advanced electronics investments between 2023 and July 2026. Infineon's new facility is a component of this national industrial development push.
