Infineon Technologies officially inaugurated its new Smart Power Fab in Dresden, Germany, on July 2nd, several months ahead of its original schedule. This new facility represents an overall investment of over €5 billion, marking the largest single investment in the company's history.

The operationalization of the new fab will double Infineon's production capacity in Dresden, establishing it as the world's largest production hub for smart power semiconductors and analog/mixed-signal technologies. This expansion comes as Infineon also recently completed the acquisition of ams OSRAM's analog/mixed-signal sensor business portfolio, expected to generate approximately €230 million in revenue by 2026 and integrate around 230 employees.

Infineon CEO Jochen Hanebeck highlighted the strategic importance of the fab's timely launch. "Smart Power Fab provides urgently needed capacity for future key technologies, from powering AI data centers to software-defined vehicles and renewable energy," Hanebeck stated. He added that this move supports the global AI revolution, secures critical industrial supply chains, and reinforces Infineon's leading position in the semiconductor market.

The Smart Power Fab leverages digital technologies, including digital twins and artificial intelligence, to significantly enhance production efficiency. This allows Infineon to ramp up production capacity at up to twice the previous speed, responding dynamically to market demands.

This expansion in Dresden is crucial for Infineon's strategy to meet growing demand in key growth markets such as energy, data centers, mobile devices, and automotive electronics.
