Infios Embeds AI into Supply Chain Execution

Infios, a supply chain software provider, is shifting the focus of artificial intelligence (AI) applications in supply chains from visibility to direct execution. The company argues that AI's true value is realized when it is deeply embedded within processes, not just layered on top.

Traditionally, supply chain AI aimed to provide enhanced visibility across global supply chains. Now, Aadil Kazmi, Head of AI Product Development at Infios, emphasizes the need to move from reactive data gathering to proactive, automated action. "The conversations we're having are really around how those capabilities actually empower people rather than replace them," Kazmi stated.

Infios's approach emphasizes "embedded AI" that operates within existing workflow systems. This reduces the need for users to learn new interfaces and minimizes friction in process adoption. The agents developed by the company are designed to augment human decision-making, escalating unfamiliar situations to human operators to ensure human control is maintained.

Kazmi clarifies the distinction between simple chatbots and more advanced AI agents. Chatbots can answer questions, whereas agents can interact with real-time systems, initiate workflows, and resolve issues. For example, when shipment information is missing, an agent can identify and resolve the problem within minutes, a significant improvement over the hours previously spent detecting and recovering from such issues.

Infios reports three key benefits from the implementation of AI agents: increased capacity, lower cost to execute, and more consistent customer experiences. The company suggests these outcomes demonstrate AI reshaping the economics of supply chains, not just optimizing individual tasks.
