Infrasense Completes 3D Ground Penetrating Radar Scan of Route 133 in Massachusetts

Infrasense has completed a comprehensive 3D Ground Penetrating Radar (3D-GPR) investigation along approximately 1.37 miles of pavement on State Route 133 in Lowell, Massachusetts. The study encompassed both eastbound and westbound travel lanes, shoulders, and the center turn lane.

The company was tasked with collecting 3D-GPR data and performing detailed subsurface analysis to evaluate pavement conditions and structural components throughout the corridor. Key objectives included identifying dowel bars and tie bars, determining their typical layout, spacing, and depth, assessing pavement layer depth, and detecting any underlying voids.

Data collection utilized a Kontur DXG1820 sensor, which captures 3D information across a five-foot-wide swath. The analysis provided critical subsurface condition data designed to support pavement evaluation, maintenance planning, and future rehabilitation efforts.

The final results offer stakeholders insights into pavement performance and highlight areas requiring further assessment or remediation, aiding in informed infrastructure management decisions.
