ING Deutschland experienced its strongest period of customer acquisition in more than 15 years during 2024, bringing the bank close to its goal of 10 million total clients. The firm ended the year with 9.9 million customers, up from 9.4 million in 2023, driven largely by the uptake of its giro accounts.

Financial results for the year showed a pre-tax profit of 2.12 billion euros. While this represents a decrease from the 2.47 billion euros reported in 2023, it remains the second-highest result since the company's inception. Customer deposits reached a record level of 150.2 billion euros, fueled by growth in savings products.

The bank also saw a recovery in the mortgage sector, with new business commitments in construction financing rising to 11 billion euros—a 60% increase over the previous year. Meanwhile, securities trading remained a growth area, with the number of brokerage accounts climbing to 2.8 million and transaction volume increasing by 24% to 43.3 million trades.

CEO Lars Stoy noted that the company is focused on deepening existing client relationships while expanding its digital services. Despite a changing interest rate environment, the bank continues to leverage its universal banking model to maintain profitability while adjusting its product offerings for both retail and business customers.
