inMusic to release developer tools for Akai and Moog hardware
Parent company inMusic plans to open-source code and provide an SDK for its hardware brands, including Akai and Moog, to support third-party modification.

inMusic, the parent corporation overseeing audio brands such as Akai, Moog, and Native Instruments, has announced a shift in its technical policy regarding hardware customization. CEO Jack O'Donnell stated that the company will provide a 'toolbox' to the user community, effectively allowing for deeper access to the internal operations of devices like the MPC and Sample series.
The initiative involves transitioning the code for hardware such as the unreleased MPC Sample Key to an open-source model. Alongside this, the company plans to introduce a software development kit (SDK) designed to facilitate modifications and minimize the risk of hardware malfunctions during the customization process.
This move acknowledges a long-standing culture of third-party modification in the music production industry. By formalizing support for developers, inMusic aims to bring user-created enhancements into a supported framework rather than relying on unauthorized workarounds. The company will now shift focus toward documenting how these modifications can be integrated without compromising the stability of its professional audio equipment.
