Instagram releases Edits desktop application for macOS
Instagram has launched a macOS version of its Edits video application, allowing users to integrate third-party AI agents into their video editing workflow.

Instagram has expanded the availability of its Edits video platform with the launch of a standalone desktop application for macOS. The software is designed to facilitate video assembly and editing through the integration of artificial intelligence.
Product management head Matthew Simari noted that the desktop version supports the Model Context Protocol (MCP). This feature enables users to connect preferred AI agents directly to the application, providing flexibility in how they tweak and manipulate video content without being restricted to a proprietary toolset.
Initially launched on mobile platforms last year, the app has seen demand for a desktop counterpart as video creators seek more robust editing capabilities. The move marks an effort to integrate broader AI functionalities into the platform's professional-leaning tool suite.
