Intel acquires quantum software firm Classiq Technologies

Intel has agreed to acquire Israel-based Classiq Technologies to integrate advanced software capabilities into its quantum computing hardware development.

27 October 2026

Intel has confirmed an agreement to acquire Classiq Technologies Ltd., an Israeli startup specializing in software that enables companies to test and run code across various types of quantum hardware. The move aims to position Intel as a comprehensive provider of full-stack quantum computing solutions.

Classiq currently serves enterprise clients, including BMW and AT&T, by offering tools that simplify the complex process of developing quantum-ready software. Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan stated that the acquisition will transition the company's quantum business into a full-stack entity. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, with completion expected by the first half of 2027.

For over a decade, Intel has pursued a strategy focused on silicon-based spin qubits, aiming to bridge the gap between traditional semiconductor manufacturing and future quantum processing. Intel maintains that quantum computers are intended to work in tandem with classical computers to solve specialized, high-complexity tasks.

Post-acquisition, Classiq is expected to maintain its hardware-agnostic approach, continuing to support code development for diverse quantum architectures. This acquisition comes as Intel seeks to solidify its position in emerging high-growth technology markets while navigating broader financial and competitive pressures in the semiconductor sector.
