Intel, Broadcom CEOs Warn Funding May Become AI Development's Biggest Bottleneck

Intel and Broadcom CEOs have warned that while demand for AI infrastructure outstrips supply, funding availability could become the most significant bottleneck for AI's continued expansion.

12 October 2026

Intel and Broadcom have issued warnings regarding potential funding obstacles in the development of artificial intelligence. The CEOs of the respective companies, Pat Gelsinger from Intel and Hock Tan from Broadcom, expressed concerns that even as demand for computing infrastructure remains strong, access to capital may become the most significant bottleneck for AI's expansion.

According to Tan, financing is likely to be a greater impediment to AI growth than semiconductors, storage, or power, as the industry races to build necessary infrastructure. Gelsinger shared a similar view, highlighting the escalating costs of AI investments and the uncertainty surrounding the eventual returns for companies.

These executive comments underscore a new challenge facing the AI sector. In response to the surge in demand for computing capacity, AI enterprises have already committed substantial funds towards building data centers, procuring advanced chips, and enhancing power infrastructure.

Despite funding concerns, both executives remain optimistic about short-term demand. Tan estimates that demand for computing infrastructure is exceeding supply, and this imbalance could persist through 2029 or even into 2030. Gelsinger anticipates no significant slowdown in the industry over the next two to three years, driven by the proliferation of AI applications and the ongoing need for computational power.
