Intel, Broadcom warn financing could constrain AI growth
Intel and Broadcom warned in Singapore that financing could become a bottleneck for AI infrastructure development, despite soaring demand.

US-based technology firms Intel and Broadcom have cautioned that financing conditions could pose a significant constraint on the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure. The warnings were issued at the DBS Asia Future Forward Conference in Singapore on October 12.
Broadcom CEO Hock Tan stated that financing may become a larger constraint than semiconductors, memory chips, or electricity as companies race to build data centers and other AI systems.
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan highlighted the rising cost of capital and the pressure to demonstrate return on investment. These factors are expected to test the sustainability of heavy AI spending, even with strong near-term demand.
Financing for AI data centers is typically secured through bank debt, bond issuances, and private credit facilities. Higher interest rates increase interest rate and refinancing risks.
Investors are increasingly scrutinizing when AI expenditures will translate into profits. Some market commentary has indicated signs of slowing capital expenditure among hyperscalers.
