Intel CEO: Small Gap in Chip Manufacturing Between China and US
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger stated the gap in chip manufacturing technology between China and the US is currently small, emphasizing that meeting customer needs is the key measure of success.
Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger has stated that the gap in chip manufacturing technology between China and the United States is currently small. Gelsinger indicated that both China and US companies possess distinct advantages and disadvantages in the semiconductor sector.
In a recent interview with Nikkei Asia, Gelsinger addressed the ongoing discussion about China's progress in chip manufacturing. He suggested that the primary determinant of success in the industry is the ability to meet customer demands. "Whoever can produce the products that best meet the needs of businesses and ordinary customers will succeed," he commented.
These remarks contrast with some other industry perspectives. For instance, Elon Musk has previously suggested China could catch up within two to three years, while a leader at Zeiss's semiconductor division estimated China to be 15 years behind in advanced EUV technology.
When questioned about China's potential to catch up to US advanced chip technology in the next five to ten years, Gelsinger responded, "As it stands today, I don't think the gap is that large."
