Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan has stated that the U.S. government does not intend to interfere with the chip manufacturer's business strategy, despite its significant minority shareholding. Tan emphasized that the government has no such policy and holds no influence over the company's governance, asserting Intel's independence in decision-making.

The U.S. government invested approximately $8.9 billion in Intel last year, acquiring a 9.9% stake, which was later diluted to about 8.2% after a secondary offering. This investment was initially intended to support Intel's expansion of advanced chip manufacturing capacity within the United States.

Intel has been facing competitive challenges, lagging behind rivals like TSMC in advanced chip manufacturing and losing market share in AI chips to competitors such as Nvidia. The company has embarked on substantial investment plans to rebuild its standing in the semiconductor industry.

Tan indicated that Intel's restructuring efforts are approximately 80% complete. He highlighted potential growth areas in advanced packaging for AI chips and the development of Application-Specific Integrated Circuits (ASICs). Tan stressed the importance of government support for Intel's long-term competitiveness in the foundry business, drawing parallels to TSMC's decade-long development.

Furthermore, Tan announced that SoftBank of Japan and competitor Nvidia have collectively invested about $7 billion in Intel. He expressed gratitude to these investors, suggesting they expect significant financial returns. Tan believes that while these restructuring efforts and new growth initiatives will take time, they are poised to deliver substantial benefits.
