A leak has revealed the first engineering sample of Intel's upcoming Xeon 7 processor, codenamed Diamond Rapids, in SiSoftware's database. The processor is confirmed to be built on the company's 18A-P process.

An engineering sample of Intel's next-generation Xeon 7 processor, codenamed Diamond Rapids, has surfaced in SiSoftware's database, according to leaker @momomo_us. This early prototype confirms the processor is being developed using Intel's enhanced 18A-P manufacturing process.

The discovered sample features 32 cores and a substantial 240MB of cache, running at a low frequency of 1.1GHz, indicative of an early development stage. This chip was observed on the Oakstream reference platform, a development system designed for Diamond Rapids that utilizes a large LGA 9324 socket and supports CPU power consumption up to 650W.

Diamond Rapids is positioned as the successor to Granite Rapids (Xeon 6) and targets the data center market. Intel has indicated it will feature a modular design, separating compute dies from I/O and memory controllers, and support 16 memory channels and PCIe Gen6. The 18A-P process technology promises performance improvements over the standard 18A process.

The upcoming Xeon processors are expected to face strong competition from AMD's next-generation EPYC processors based on the Zen 6 architecture. Intel's Diamond Rapids are projected for a 2027 release, potentially facing competitive pressure from AMD's earlier market entry. Intel has also suggested the possibility of reintroducing Hyper-Threading in subsequent processor generations.
