Intel Seeks Partner for Ohio One Fab Operations

Updated July 23, 2024 – Intel is exploring options to find an operational partner for its Ohio One semiconductor fabrication cluster project in Ohio, according to recent reports. South Korean company SK Hynix is said to be considering this possibility.
Official negotiations have not yet commenced, and discussions are described as being in a very early stage. The Ohio One project, initially planned as a $28 billion investment, has faced delays. The revised target is to complete Mod 1 by 2030, with operations commencing in 2030-2031. Mod 2 is slated for completion in 2031 and operation in 2032.
The move comes as Intel aims to bolster its manufacturing capacity in North America. This strategic objective seeks to meet growing global demand and enhance supply chain resilience. Establishing a partnership could accelerate the development and operational ramp-up of the significant Ohio facility.
While SK Hynix has previously denied plans to acquire Intel's U.S. fabrication plants, this development suggests a potential collaboration focused on operations rather than ownership.
