Interactive map shows timeline for autumn leaf color changes

The peak timing for autumn leaf colors across the United States is now predictable with an interactive map released by Explore Fall. The map provides information on when different regions can expect to see the most vibrant foliage.

The service covers the contiguous 48 states and features a timeline slider that allows users to navigate from the beginning of September through the end of December. The map's colors update as the slider moves, displaying the foliage in various areas for each specific date.

Explore Fall has also introduced tools offering location-specific forecasts. Users can enter a city to receive data on current conditions, peak color timing, and recommendations for trip planning.

The timing of peak colors varies significantly based on elevation and latitude. For instance, higher elevations in states like Wyoming and Colorado may see peak colors as early as September, while southern states such as Texas and Louisiana reach their color peak in November or December. In the New England region, including Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, the peak season typically occurs in early October.
