Medical technology company Intuitive has established a new policy for responsible sourcing of battery minerals. The initiative aims to promote transparency and reduce adverse social and environmental impacts, aligning with the European Union's Battery Regulation (EU 2023/1542) and OECD due diligence guidance.
The company will conduct, document, and report on due diligence for critical raw materials used in battery production, including lithium, cobalt, nickel, and natural graphite. The focus will be on risk categories such as labor and human rights, environmental harm, and waste management.
Intuitive's framework includes a cross-functional leadership oversight committee and procedures for risk identification and mitigation. The company expects its battery suppliers to implement similar programs adhering to OECD standards and applicable laws.
