Intuitive, a long-standing player in surgical robotics, is significantly investing in future advancements. In 2020 alone, the company allocated over $595 million to research and development, underscoring its commitment to advancing minimally invasive care. These efforts aim to increase the precision of surgical procedures and improve patient outcomes.

The company leverages data from its da Vinci and Ion robotic systems, accumulated from over 10 million procedures. Intuitive is actively investigating the role of big data and artificial intelligence in surgery. Goals include accelerating medical training, identifying optimal patient candidates for surgery, and potentially providing real-time guidance to surgeons in the operating room.

Intuitive collaborates with over 200 renowned surgeons globally to utilize real-world data. Based on these partnerships, tools are being developed to offer surgeons additional information for decision-making during operations. Concurrently, new training modalities and integrated software solutions are being created that utilize machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Reliability of the robotic systems is paramount, with Intuitive achieving 99 percent uptime for its da Vinci systems. The company has also launched Intuitive Ventures to accelerate the development of novel technologies in robotic-assisted surgery and minimally invasive care.
