New SynchroSeal Instrument Aims to Improve Surgical Efficiency
Intuitive, a manufacturer of robotic surgical systems, has launched the SynchroSeal instrument for use with its da Vinci surgical systems. The new device is designed to speed up the sealing and transection of tissues and vessels during surgical procedures, potentially offering significant improvements in surgical efficiency.
The SynchroSeal instrument allows for reliable sealing and transection of vessels up to 5 mm in diameter and tissue bundles that fit within the instrument's jaws, all controlled by a single foot pedal activation. Intuitive states that the average sealing time is less than two seconds. The instrument features refined, curved jaws and a deflectable tip, intended to improve dissection and tissue grasping capabilities as surgeons navigate anatomy.
Operating in conjunction with the da Vinci E-100 generator, the SynchroSeal integrates seamlessly with the da Vinci X and da Vinci Xi surgical systems. It offers three energy modes: coagulation, sealing, and transection. The company claims that SynchroSeal provides enhanced efficiency and faster activation times compared to previous technologies.
SynchroSeal is a single-use instrument sold in packs of six. The E-100 generator is sold separately. Intuitive Surgical has been a key player in robotic surgery, with its da Vinci systems widely adopted for minimally invasive procedures globally.
