IPO Window Opens Selectively for Prepared Companies

The window for initial public offerings (IPOs) is reopening, but it is doing so selectively, favoring companies that have used slower market periods to build scale and fortify their financial and operational foundations. The 2026 IPO pipeline signals a return to public markets for companies that have demonstrated robust preparation.

The IPO market peaked in 2021 before slowing due to rising interest rates, declining valuations, and recession concerns. The years 2022 and 2023 were the weakest since the global financial crisis, with activity improving in 2024 and stabilizing in 2025. Many companies chose to remain private longer, raising additional capital and awaiting more favorable public market conditions.

Datasite data, which tracks capital-raising projects, shows an uptick. Globally, new financing transaction workspaces opened increased by 32% in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year, with IPO-related projects rising by 33%. While these are leading indicators, they typically precede actual filings by six to nine months.

To succeed in the IPO process, companies must be able to close their books quickly, produce public-company-quality reporting, articulate a credible path to durable growth, and demonstrate the ability to meet quarterly obligations post-listing. While AI and automation can streamline administrative tasks, they do not replace critical judgment or the need to earn investor confidence.

The true reopening of the market depends on whether these early project activities translate into actual filings and if newly listed companies can sustain their valuations. The current IPO pipeline is a result of years of preparation, not merely a better market window.
