Ipsos analysis reveals dominance of physical retail and value-focused habits in Egypt
New data from Ipsos highlights that Egyptian consumers continue to prioritize physical store experiences and price-conscious brand selection, even as digital shopping adoption grows.

A report by Ipsos, titled "Spotlight Egypt," indicates that physical retail remains the primary shopping channel for the majority of the population, with 76% of consumers favoring in-store experiences. While online shopping is gradually increasing, the data shows that 85% of consumer spending is directed toward physical products rather than experiences.
Shopping behavior in Egypt is defined by a pragmatic, value-driven approach. Quality and price are the primary determinants of brand selection, while image-based marketing has a limited impact. Nearly two-thirds of consumers prefer local brands over international ones, and 61% report planning their shopping trips in advance, reflecting a disciplined approach to household budgets.
Influence on purchasing decisions remains rooted in social validation. Personal recommendations and peer feedback carry more weight than influencer marketing or expert opinions. This preference for trust and reputation underscores the importance of customer advocacy for brands operating within the Egyptian market.
