Ipsos: Doctors and scientists are most trusted professions globally
Ipsos' research reveals significant differences in professional trustworthiness across countries. Doctors and scientists enjoy broad public confidence, while politicians and social media influencers are ranked as least trustworthy.
Global market research firm Ipsos released findings from its 2026 study assessing public trust in various professions. The research, which surveyed over 23,500 adults across 31 countries, highlights significant global variations in confidence levels for different careers.
Globally, doctors and scientists emerged as the most trusted professions. Doctors received an average trust rating of 61%, followed by scientists at 57%. Teachers ranked third with 52% trust. Conversely, politicians and social media influencers were identified as the least trustworthy, with politicians earning only 11% trust and influencers 12%.
The study indicated substantial differences in trust depending on the country and profession. For instance, trust in doctors was highest in the Netherlands (72%) and lowest in Hungary (41%). Scientist trust also varied widely, from 36% in Japan to 68% in India.
The findings underscore how professional image and public perception significantly influence the standing of different careers. Understanding of professions' societal roles and the conduct of their practitioners directly impacts perceived trustworthiness.
