Ipsos Study Reveals Performance of QSR Mobile Ordering in the U.S.
Market research firm Ipsos has released its 2025 Channel Check-In study, analyzing the performance of mobile ordering among U.S. quick-service restaurants. The report uses consumer surveys and mystery shopper data.

Market research firm Ipsos has released its "Ipsos 2025 Channel Check-In | QSR Mobile Ordering Study," an analysis of the U.S. quick-service restaurant (QSR) sector's mobile ordering capabilities. Developed in collaboration with The Coca-Cola Company and Nation’s Restaurant News, the report benchmarks digital order-ahead performance.
The second annual study evaluated 40 leading QSR and fast-casual chains, providing actionable intelligence for operators aiming to enhance in-app ordering experiences. The findings are based on a survey of 1,700 U.S. adults aged 18-75 who have used a QSR app in the past month, supplemented by assessments from 2,891 mystery shoppers.
As mobile ordering solidifies its role as a primary sales channel, restaurants face increasing competition to deliver seamless digital experiences. The research identified three key drivers for repeat use of digital ordering platforms: saving time or skipping lines, offering in-person customization options, and providing compelling deals.
Top performers included Panda Express for overall best performance for the second consecutive year, Sonic for significant improvements in app navigation and customization, and Firehouse Subs as the highest-performing new entrant, noted for features like mobile wallet payments. The study aims to help restaurant brands identify pain points and accelerate innovations to build loyalty and drive revenue.
Ipsos is offering complimentary reviews of the study results for interested brands seeking to understand industry performance and identify potential upgrades for their own offerings.
