A survey conducted in January 2026 by Ipsos in collaboration with Le Cercle des Épargnants indicates that French citizens are increasingly worried about their personal savings and the future stability of the national pension system.

The study, which interviewed 1,000 residents in metropolitan France aged 18 and over, found that concerns about the sustainability of pension financing and the country's general economic stability are significant, with 47-48% of respondents expressing strong worries. The continuity of healthcare and social protection funding also emerged as a major concern.

The survey also explored French views on various savings products and how they gather information on financial matters. Over half of those surveyed (55.63%) believe the economic situation has worsened in the past year. Worries about the state of public finances are particularly pronounced, especially among older demographics.

This annual barometer, now in its 24th year, aims to track and understand the evolving savings and retirement behaviors of the French population. Le Cercle des Épargnants is an association focused on savings and retirement issues, working to enhance member information on these topics.
