Irago Conference Addresses Global Challenges in Aichi
The Irago Conference, held last week in Aichi, Japan, brought together over 180 scientists, engineers, and policymakers to discuss a range of global issues.

Aichi, Japan – The Irago Conference, organized by the Electronics-Inspired Interdisciplinary Research Institute (EIIRIS) at Toyohashi University of Technology, concluded last week after addressing a spectrum of global challenges. The event, held November 15-16, aimed to foster mutual understanding among experts from diverse fields.
Over 180 participants engaged in discussions covering topics from energy and natural resources to public health and disaster prevention. The conference provided a comprehensive outlook that garnered positive feedback. "This conference has been extremely informative," commented Robert Gellar from the University of Tokyo. Uracha Ruktanonchai from Thailand's National Nanotechnology Center (NANOTEC) described it as "A unique conference with experts from a wide range of backgrounds."
To ensure global reach, the conference was streamed live on Ustream, allowing researchers worldwide to access presentations on critical issues such as energy, disaster mitigation, and nanotechnology. Oussama Khatib from Stanford University called it "A good recipe of speakers from such a wide range of backgrounds."
Following the conference, 43 papers have been submitted to the Journal of Physics Conference Series. An additional session allowed graduate students to present their latest findings. The program also included excursions to sites like the Tahara megasolar region and a local car manufacturing plant, offering participants insight into practical applications of their research. The Irago Conference is slated to continue next year as it addresses evolving environmental, social, and technological challenges.
