Iridium Completes Acquisition of Aireon
Iridium Communications Inc. has finalized its acquisition of Aireon LLC. The deal integrates Iridium's satellite services with Aireon's ADS-B surveillance network.

Iridium Communications Inc. (Nasdaq: IRDM) has officially completed its acquisition of Aireon LLC. The transaction was confirmed on Tuesday, July 6, 2026. Aireon operates a global space-based Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast (ADS-B) system for air traffic surveillance.
According to Iridium, the purchase will integrate its existing satellite services with Aireon's network, which collects ADS-B data from aircraft globally. The company anticipates that the combined offerings will enhance aviation safety and efficiency worldwide. Financial terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed.
Aireon's technology enables real-time tracking of aircraft positions and data, even in regions lacking traditional radar coverage. Aireon was established in 2011 as a joint venture involving the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and European aviation organizations.
Iridium CEO Kirk Winter previously stated that the acquisition supports the company's growth strategy and strengthens its position in the aviation data and communication market. The integration is expected to yield significant synergies and create new business opportunities for Iridium.
