Isabelle Hudon's CEO mandate at BDC renewed through 2030
The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) has renewed Isabelle Hudon's mandate as CEO until 2030. The extension aims to ensure continuity in leadership amidst ongoing uncertainty for entrepreneurs.

The Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) announced on May 29, 2026, that Isabelle Hudon's term as CEO has been extended through 2030. This decision provides leadership continuity for the Crown corporation as it navigates a period of economic uncertainty for Canadian entrepreneurs.
"Isabelle Hudon's leadership has demonstrated that a development bank can move fast, stay profitable, and make a real difference for businesses on the ground," stated Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry. Joly highlighted Hudon's role in protecting Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from unfair tariffs and bolstering the nation's economic sovereignty.
Brian O'Neil, Chair of BDC's Board, noted Hudon's significant contributions since her initial appointment in August 2021. Under her tenure, BDC's client base grew by nearly 50%, surpassing 100,000 clients in 2023. The extension allows Hudon to guide BDC through its next five-year corporate strategy.
Hudon has overseen the launch of key initiatives, including the Defence Sector Platform and the Community Banking practice. She has also been instrumental in establishing several venture funds, such as the Thrive Venture Fund for women entrepreneurs, the Growth Venture Fund, and specific funds for Indigenous and Black entrepreneurs.
BDC has maintained consistent profitability during Hudon's leadership, improving its efficiency ratio. The bank has also played a critical role in implementing government responses to trade issues, providing financing and advisory services to help businesses mitigate the impact of tariffs and other economic challenges.
