ISHRS highlights risks of unregulated hair transplant clinics
On November 11, the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) hosts its annual awareness event to assist victims of underground hair transplant operations.

The International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) is hosting its sixth annual 'Hair Transplant Repair Day' on November 11, 2026. The event addresses a global surge in unregulated clinics where unlicensed personnel perform invasive procedures, often leading to severe health complications and irreversible cosmetic damage.
These black-market operators frequently entice patients with significant discounts and falsified patient testimonials. In response, ISHRS connects affected individuals with qualified surgeons willing to provide corrective procedures. Since the campaign’s inception in 2020, the network of participating surgeons has expanded to include approximately 100 medical professionals worldwide.
ISHRS Director Dr. Robin Unger emphasizes that hair restoration is a medical procedure requiring specific surgical expertise and an ethical standard of care. The organization warns that many underground facilities lack accountability, operating under the guise of legitimate medical practices. Patients are encouraged to verify the credentials of their surgeon through local medical boards rather than relying on promotional marketing materials.
The initiative is part of a broader consumer awareness campaign titled 'Fight the Fight,' which provides educational resources on how to select a qualified surgeon. Dr. Paul T. Rose, chair of the campaign subcommittee, notes that the rise in poorly performed transplants has made public education essential. Patients are urged to understand that a transplant involves a long-term clinical relationship, not merely a single transaction.
