Isomorphic Labs executive predicts AI-driven future for drug discovery
Alphabet-backed Isomorphic Labs aims to accelerate pharmaceutical development using artificial intelligence, as it prepares for its first clinical trials.

Isomorphic Labs President Max Jaderberg has predicted that all pharmaceutical drugs will eventually be designed using artificial intelligence. The company aims to move beyond traditional, trial-and-error laboratory methods to shorten development timelines for new treatments.
Spun out of Google DeepMind in 2021, the company focuses on therapies for cancer, immunology, and inflammation. Beyond internal drug discovery, it provides AI technology to major pharmaceutical firms, including Eli Lilly and Novartis. CEO Demis Hassabis leads the organization, which has reportedly raised approximately $2.7 billion to date.
Isomorphic Labs is currently in discussions for a new funding round that could value the firm at $40 billion or more. The company plans to initiate its first clinical trials by the end of the year. While the potential for AI in medicine is significant, the company remains in the early stages of proving its efficacy in human clinical settings.
