IT Company Materna Celebrates 40th Anniversary
IT consulting firm Materna, founded in 1980, is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The company has grown from a two-person operation to an international group with over 2,300 employees.
Dortmund – IT service provider Materna Information & Communications SE is marking its 40th anniversary. Founded by Dr. Winfried Materna and Helmut an de Meulen in late 1980, the company has expanded from a small startup to an international group employing over 2,300 people.
Materna specializes in IT and digitalization projects. Current focus areas include cloud services, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things (IoT), IT process automation, and artificial intelligence and data analytics. The company also undertakes digitalization projects in the public sector.
The company's founders stepped back from operational roles in 2015 but remain involved in the supervisory board. Their early work involved hiring students as freelance employees, with initial projects centered on building computer networks.
The Materna group includes subsidiaries such as agineo GmbH, cbs Corporate Business Solutions GmbH, Infora GmbH, Materna IPS GmbH, and Materna TMT GmbH. Several of these subsidiaries are also celebrating anniversaries this year, including cbs for its 25th and Infora for its 40th.
