Chinese technology firm IT Home has announced that its 千问 App has received an update introducing a new minor protection mode. The update aims to enhance the safety and well-being of young users in the digital environment.

In the new protection mode, the functionalities of the 千问 App are restricted. Only learning-related features such as photo-based Q&A, AI writing, translation, and in-depth research will be accessible. All conversation logs will be isolated from the standard mode, and access to external links will be blocked, reducing the risk of minors being exposed to potentially inappropriate content.

The app will also strengthen its management of inappropriate or violent content, tailoring responses to be more suitable for the cognitive abilities of minors. Furthermore, 千问 will avoid simulating intimate relationships, such as virtual companions or family members, to prevent young users from forming unhealthy emotional dependencies. Positive guidance will be provided to discourage harmful attachments.

Should the system detect strong emotional distress in a user, it will prioritize offering information on professional mental health hotlines and encourage seeking help from professionals or loved ones. Users will also receive a reminder to take a break after more than 30 minutes of continuous use, promoting both mental and physical well-being.
