IT Home: gFiber Wi-Fi 8 Premium Gateway Announced with 20Gbps and Wi-Fi 8 Support

IT Home announced the gFiber Wi-Fi 8 Premium Gateway, developed with Qualcomm and Gemtek. The device supports 20Gbps symmetrical wired speeds and Wi-Fi 8 connectivity.

13 October 2026

IT Home reported on October 13 that Qualcomm and Gemtek have collaborated to develop a flagship broadband gateway for gFiber, formerly Google Fiber. The device, named gFiber Wi-Fi 8 Premium Gateway, was showcased at the Network X 2026 conference in Vienna, Austria.

The gateway is built on Qualcomm's Dragonwing NPro A8 Elite chipset, featuring a 5-core CPU and a Hexagon NPU. Wirelessly, it supports Wi-Fi 8 (802.11bn) with quad-band concurrent connections. On the wired side, the device is capable of handling symmetrical 20Gbps speeds.

Leveraging its powerful SoC, the gateway can run agent-based artificial intelligence and smart services locally. This enhances response times for local services, reduces reliance on cloud processing, and helps protect sensitive home network data.

Qualcomm also introduced the Dragonwing SAM security and management software framework, alongside the Dragonwing FWA Gen 6 Elite platform for Fixed Wireless Access, which supports 5G-A, NTN, and tri-band Wi-Fi 8.
