IT Home: Qianfan satellite constellation expands to 256 satellites
Chinese technology outlet IT Home reports that the Qianfan satellite constellation has expanded to 256 satellites following the successful launch of 18 satellites over two days.
Chinese technology outlet IT Home reports that the Qianfan satellite constellation has expanded to 256 satellites. Yuanxin Satellite successfully launched 10 satellites on September 15 and an additional 8 on September 16.
The company plans to complete the deployment of 324 satellites by the end of 2026, which will preliminarily enable commercial satellite internet services in key global regions. This requires the addition of 68 more satellites and a sustained high-frequency launch cadence.
Yuanxin Satellite, responsible for building and operating the Qianfan constellation, has stated its objective to provide global satellite internet services with low latency, high speed, and high reliability. The service is designed for compatibility with future 6G standards, aiming for seamless integration across terrestrial, satellite, airborne, and maritime communication networks.
The first phase of the Qianfan constellation involves deploying 648 satellites for regional coverage. The second phase will add another 648 satellites, bringing the total to 1296 for global coverage. A third phase envisions over 15,000 satellites to offer diversified, converged services.
