Chinese technology portal IT Home has published instructions on how to decrease latency in certain Windows 11 menus by altering the system's registry editor. The procedure aims to improve user experience by reducing perceived delays when interacting with the operating system's interface.
The issue stems from legacy settings in earlier Windows versions that can introduce a delay of approximately 400 milliseconds. This delay may manifest as mild stuttering or lag when users click on menus or UI elements. It can be particularly noticeable in file explorer submenus or when menus appear on hover.
IT Home references a guide from makeuseof, which outlines how registry modifications can speed up menu responses. The process involves opening the Registry Editor (by typing "Regedit" in the Start menu) and navigating to the path HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop.
Within this path, users need to locate the 'MenuShowDelay' entry and adjust its value. The default setting is 400 milliseconds. While makeuseof suggests setting it to 0, IT Home recommends a value below 100 milliseconds, depending on individual user preference.
