Chinese tech outlet IT Home has reported that Xiaomi intends to significantly bolster its future by increasing its research and development expenditures.

The company announced plans to invest 200 billion yuan (approximately $27.5 billion) in research and development over the next five years. This announcement follows reporting by XinHua, which highlighted Xiaomi's success in developing its own underlying technologies, thereby opening new avenues for innovation.

Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun confirmed the plans, emphasizing the company's commitment to technological advancement. "Technology is the foundation, and it is Xiaomi's unchanging iron law," Lei Jun stated. He added that the company will continue its investments in core technology.

This announcement comes shortly after Xiaomi unveiled its new "Xuanjie" chip and "Pengcheng" vehicle series. Specifically, the Xuanjie O3, O100, and D100 chips represent Xiaomi's efforts to develop its own high-performance circuits. The company has been investing heavily in chip development for over five years, with cumulative expenditures exceeding 21 billion yuan. The chip team comprises nearly 3,000 experts.

If Xiaomi's plans materialize, the company could further solidify its competitive position in the technology sector and continue its expansion into new markets, such as the intelligent vehicle segment.
