IT Home's Kimi K3 AI Model Launched, Company Denies Replication Claims

Chinese AI firm IT Home (月之暗面) announced the launch of its Kimi K3 model on July 16, positioning it as the most capable Kimi model to date with 2.8 trillion parameters. The model achieved a top ranking on the Frontend Code Arena, surpassing Claude Fable 5 with 1679 points, and its weights are scheduled for release soon.

The performance of Kimi K3 drew attention from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who commented on related evaluation content with "Impressive."

Addressing public speculation that K3 is a distilled version of smaller models, Huang Zhenxin, head of enterprise business at IT Home, stated, "The leap in Kimi K3's performance relies on fundamental original architectural innovation, not on distilling or replicating any existing model." Huang also asserted that "open-source models and Chinese large models should not be labeled as low-priced," emphasizing their ability to create state-of-the-art models with appropriate commercial pricing.

Following the launch, IT Home reported that user demand for Kimi K3 has exceeded expectations, leading to resource strain and temporary limitations on new user registrations. The company prioritized existing paying users' experience, stating they would not compromise this for short-term user growth. Efforts are underway to optimize performance and increase computing power to alleviate pressure, with further updates on full service restoration to be announced based on resource availability.
