Itzehoe Technical Relief Agency to Get New Building

The Technical Relief Agency (THW) in Itzehoe is set to gain a new local chapter building located at the Steinburg district's disaster control center. The groundbreaking is planned for summer 2026, marking a federal investment of approximately 14 million euros for the new facility.

The current THW Itzehoe premises on the Gudewill barracks grounds are no longer adequate for contemporary operational needs. The new building will be situated on Elmshorner Straße, near the A23 autobahn.

This project in Itzehoe is part of a broader federal initiative. Germany is investing around 2.8 billion euros nationwide to construct 200 new THW local chapter buildings by 2030. To optimize time and costs, these structures will largely follow a modular "building block" system, using largely identical components with minor site-specific adaptations.

Other THW chapters, including those in Husum, Niebüll, and Heide, are also slated to benefit from this program, with allocated construction funds totaling up to 15 million euros starting in 2027. The overall goal is to modernize and standardize the THW's infrastructure across the country.
