Itzehoe's Alsen Site Hosts Urban Development Day

Itzehoe, located in the Steinburg district of Germany, held a "Tag der Städtebauförderung" (Day of Urban Development Funding) event on Friday, May 8th, at the former Alsen cement factory grounds. The occasion was marked by various activities, including graffiti workshops for schoolchildren, live music performances, and a collaborative project where artists redesigned the wall in the area known as "Schlämmbottich."

The Alsen site is slated for redevelopment into a multi-use cultural and event center. Initial estimates place the project's cost at approximately 9.5 million euros, with funding expected to come from a federal, state, and municipal urban development program. Beyond the Alsen site, these funds are also intended for projects like Itzehoe's new Störschleife and the planned reconstruction of the central bus station.

The urban development company BIG Städtebau is acting as the designated development agency for the city in this project. The event served to highlight the importance of urban renewal initiatives and offer residents insight into the future development of the Alsen site.
