Jamba Juice Closes Stores Amid Franchise Terminations
Smoothie chain Jamba Juice has experienced a significant number of franchise terminations. Over the last three years, 130 franchise agreements have ended, with a substantial portion being terminated by the company.
Jamba Juice is facing a substantial reduction in its franchise locations, with 130 agreements terminated over the past three years, according to its 2026 franchise disclosure document. Of these, 116 terminations were initiated by the company since the beginning of 2023, a rate significantly higher than comparable chains like Tropical Smoothie Cafe and Planet Smoothie.
The reasons for these numerous terminations have not been officially detailed by Jamba Juice. However, franchise agreements typically allow termination for reasons such as default on payments or refusal of inspections. Franchisees, conversely, have limited grounds for termination outside of specific legal provisions.
This high termination rate has contributed to a net decline in Jamba Juice's overall footprint. As of the end of last year, the chain operated 710 locations, a decrease of 28 stores since early 2023. California, a key market for Jamba Juice, saw the largest net reduction in stores.
Despite the closures, Jamba Juice is also pursuing expansion, with plans to open 37 new locations this year. The net change in its store count will become clearer when the company releases its next franchise disclosure document.
